MA-POL-009 Issue 2

Whistleblowing Policy

Purpose

This policy enables staff, volunteers, contractors, and partner organisation representatives to raise concerns about wrongdoing within the Athenaeum without fear of retaliation. Concerns may relate to collections management, financial conduct, data handling, staff welfare, or any other matter involving a serious breach of the institution's obligations.

What to report

Reportable concerns include: unlawful or unethical acquisitions, misuse of funds, falsification of records, unsafe working conditions, breach of custody agreements, inappropriate disclosure of restricted information, and conduct that would expose the institution or any party to the custody agreements to harm.

Concerns about temporal events, ontological conditions, or frame-stability incidents should follow the dedicated reporting procedure (MA-POL-018 and MA-POL-015) in the first instance, and may also be raised under this policy where there is reason to believe they have been mishandled.

How to report and protection

Concerns may be raised with the Registrar, or — where the concern involves the Registrar — directly with the Chair of the Conservation Committee. Reports may be made anonymously. The Athenaeum will not take adverse action against anyone who raises a concern in good faith, regardless of the outcome of any investigation.
