Preserving sentient life and its echoes across the multiverse.
Most civilisations rise and fall without contact; when we reach them, we usually reach what they left behind. The Meridian Athenaeum keeps the record of those lives — their objects, their histories, and the obligations owed to them — so that vanishing is not the same as being forgotten.
The Vellum of Quiet Hours
An illuminated book of hours legible only while the room is silent.
Open object record →Most who have lived were never recorded.
The Athenaeum keeps faith with communities of every kind — present and ended — whose makers, custodians, and continuities are not adequately described by any single culture, biology, or calendar. We record with consent, return where return is owed, and treat the obligations of the gone as binding.
- Living culturesSource communities are partners, not subjects. Records are kept with them, not merely about them.
- Sentient continuitiesEvery kind of maker and custodian is recognised, and owed the same standard of care; no one's continuity is the default.
- Memory, not rescueThe Athenaeum cannot keep a world from ending. It can keep that ending from being the same as being forgotten.
Collections are presented as records first.
The public catalogue privileges accession number, custody condition, material evidence, and provenance note. It is designed as a collections management surface, not an exhibition trail.
Care is wider than storage.
Stewardship covers environmental control, disputed returns, matter compatibility, member loans, and objects that remain stable only under specific spatial or chronological agreements.
General admission is not the governing model.
Visits are arranged through member organisations, diplomatic channels, research appointments, or special custody requirements. The building map remains a routine facility notice.
Selected records remain public while full storage, threshold, and transfer data are withheld.
Omissions are made under the Registrar's ordinary practice and may concern preservation, source-community request, courier safety, temporal stability, or the convenience of rooms that decline to be named.
