Commitment
The Athenaeum is committed to equality of treatment, access, and representation in all its activities. Discrimination on grounds of origin, identity, morphology, temporality, substrate, or any other characteristic is not acceptable within the institution or its partner network.
Scope of protected characteristics
The institution applies the full range of protected characteristics recognised under applicable legislation. In addition, the Athenaeum recognises that these categories were designed from premises that do not apply to all entities with whom the institution works. Additional protected characteristics include: mode of existence, temporal continuity, species, substrate composition, and dimensional origin, where these are relevant to an individual's access to the institution or its collections.
Responsibilities and reporting
All staff, volunteers, and contractors are expected to uphold this policy in their own conduct and to report concerns about potential discrimination to their line manager or the Registrar. Equality considerations are incorporated into all significant institutional decisions.
Equality performance is reported annually in the Annual Report. Specific concerns should be raised through the Complaints Procedure (MA-POL-008).
