Freedom of Information

Scope

This document describes how the Athenaeum approaches freedom of information requests. The institution complies with applicable information rights legislation and treats requests promptly, fairly, and with a presumption toward disclosure where no clear exemption applies.

What is available

The publication scheme includes: the collections register (selected), published research notes, policy documents, annual reports and accounts, governance records, and statements of custodial purpose. Additional information may be requested and will be provided unless an exemption applies.

Exemptions

Exemptions include information held in confidence, information whose disclosure would endanger persons or objects, information exempt under custody agreements, information about sites or routes whose disclosure would affect frame stability or courier safety, and information where source-community consent has not been obtained.

Information about ontological conditions, frame-stability readings, and access routes is withheld as a matter of institutional policy where disclosure could affect object safety or create risk. A record of categories of withheld information is maintained in the public index (MA-POL-023).

Making a request

Requests should be submitted in writing to the Registrar, identifying the information sought. We will respond within twenty working days. Where a request is refused, we will explain the exemption and advise on review options.
