[staff] A housekeeping note before this thread gets any larger: the desk is not a translation bureau on command. It is a bridge for good cases. If you post a rumour in any language, it remains a rumour in that language. If you post dates, places, documents, witness names where appropriate, and a clear statement of what is claimed, then one of us will help carry it outward.

Useful format: original language first, brief English summary if you can, source trail, and where you think it belongs. If it is Belgian airspace, Pierre can help it to the Belgian-wave thread. If it is Eastern-bloc military, Marek or WroclawWatcher can help it toward Kapustin. If it is animal sign, Hexenring and the big-cats people can use it. Chatter can stay here. Vetted cases travel.

Dobrze. I made a small index in the Polish intro thread so we do not lose everything in greetings: witaj-z-polski. Bartek has the forest-edge account, pani Wiesia has the older stories, and I will mark what is witness, what is family story, what is only atmosphere.

When there is enough clean material I will write an English summary for the cryptid board, but not before. A bridge too early is just a leak.

For Eastern files I propose similar index. I can post summaries in English but the document names must stay exact: jednostka, sygnatura, archive, date. Machine translation makes rubbish of military office names. If you mistranslate a department, you invent a conspiracy by accident.

I have one 1978 Czech air-force note and two Polish press clippings that belong eventually in bases/kapustin, not because they are Kapustin Jar cases exactly, but because they are Warsaw-Pact document culture and the same people there understand the bureaucracy. Untranslated, not empty.

I have put a clean Belgian-wave chronology into the Belgian wave thread, with the gendarmerie dates separated from newspaper dates. This is the first outward bridge from here, I think. It is small but it works: discussion in French and English here, sourced summary there, no one forced to pretend the original language is an obstacle.

Un point important: a translation is not a new source. It is a window onto the source. Keep the original sentence beside the English one when the word matters.

The Belgian witness above is exactly why a regional desk matters. A person who will not post in the main thread can still contribute the date, the clipping, the local words. Do not pressure them for interpretation. Ask for the paper, the weather, the road, the time. Let the memory stay human and the record become precise.

I linked back from the Hessdalen note because the method is the same even when the phenomenon is not: separate hard timing from soft timing, instrument from witness, translation from source.
