That is the hard family part. You are not trying to humiliate him; you are trying to move the argument from atmosphere to object. Be patient where you can. The object is still the object.

Phil, have you been to any actual Sumerian sites or just Egypt and stones?

Not Iraq, no. Too many reasons not to pretend otherwise. I have stood in museum rooms with the objects, which is not the same. The thing I can report is scale: a tiny tablet can carry more gravity than a pyramid photo because it is somebody thinking in their own hand.

Museum rooms are not neutral either. Labels, colonial collection histories, missing excavation context, restoration choices -- all of that shapes what visitors think the ancient world is. But Phil is right that small objects can humble grand theories quickly.

What about cylinder seals showing winged discs? Ancient aircraft?

Winged disc is not automatically aircraft. Solar, royal, divine, protective, iconographic. The word "disc" is not a boarding pass.

Also be careful not to import later Egyptian or Persian winged-disc forms backward into every Mesopotamian image. Ancient Near Eastern iconography is connected, but connected is not interchangeable. The documentary move is to say "winged disc" as if all wings and all discs are one object.

Thread summary so far: no aliens, but also not no mystery. Is that fair?
