Use it for: timezone meetups (the JST night crew is real and quietly growing), translation help when a good case is stuck behind a language wall, and local field contacts so that when something happens in your prefecture there's a human nearby who can go and look. The Western boards are not unkind, they are just LOUD, and on the wrong clock, and sometimes you want a room where it is already tomorrow and nobody is shouting.

mod_Kenji さん、皆さん、こんにちは。遠田礼です。青森の山麓に住んでいます。やっと、時間を気にせず自分たちの時間帯で話せる場所ができて、本当に嬉しいです。英語で長く説明するのは難しいので、ここで日本語で話せるのは本当にありがたい。

私は北の山の中で山人の目撃記録をずっと付けています。青森、東北全体の現地の連絡役になれたらと思います。何か起きたとき、すぐ現地に行けます。同じ時間帯で動いている方は他にどなたがいますか。夜に調査の話ができる相手がいれば、心強いです。よろしくお願いします。

mod_Kenji、素晴らしいスレッドをありがとう。ご存知の通り、わたしは「ツチノコ男」です。十一年間、岐阜の山々で探しています -- 写真はまだ、でも諦めていません。

やっと登録しました。OsakaReader です。長年 lurk していたんですが、finally got tired of the Western boards at 3 AM -- うるさすぎ。Asia desk みたいなのがずっと欲しかった。world-cryptids に興味あるし、especially the Japan/Korea material the English side never gets right anyway.

ここで日本語の堅実な事例を整理し、時々、本当に良いものだけ英語ボードへ流す。そうすれば、この場所が一方通行の死に場所にならずに済む。ただし討論も情報交換も、多くはここに、日本語のまま、謝罪なく留まってよいと思います。翻訳には質が要る。安売りはしません。中国地方・広島のコンタクトが要るときは、いつでも。地元の目撃者の縁もあります。静かに、質を守って進めましょう。それが我々のやり方です。

一つだけ、最初に言わせてください。私がこの机にこだわるのは、英語のボードがどうしても陰陽道を「日本のタロット」にしてしまうからです。違います。陰陽道は八百年のあいだ、律令国家の役所でした。陰陽寮 -- 暦を作り、時を計り、天文を観測し、吉凶を上奏する官庁です。占いは趣味ではなく、行政手続きだった。安倍晴明は魔法使いではなく、官僚です。

この区別は、英語に訳した瞬間にほとんど失われます。だからこの机が要る。ここでなら、占いを「制度」として -- 記録と手続きとして -- 語れる。魔法としてではなく。Kenji さんの言う通り、良い事例だけを訳して外へ出せばいい。残りはここで、日本語で、正確に話しましょう。

こんばんは. I hope that is right -- it is most of the Japanese I have, that and arigatou and, for some reason, the word for owl, which I looked up specially.

I will not clutter your desk, this is the one time. I work nights in Seattle and the truth is the JST crew are my 4am company more than my own timezone is. When the American boards have gone to bed and the British ones have not woken up, you lot are awake and the lights are on in here. I do not read Japanese and I would never ask anyone to perform in English for me. I only wanted to say good evening to the people who are quietly there at the worst hour of the clock.

Onmyoji_Ren -- Kenji translated a few lines of your administrative-history posts into the divination board in the spring, and it genuinely changed how I sit with the tarot. So, thank you, from the other side of the date line. おやすみなさい, I think. Back to lurking.
