Kenji is right and the correction matters. The sacred can precede the written record. Temples, rites, recitation, trained memory, and craft communities may all be operating before the first tablet lets us overhear the room. Writing does not create complexity; it changes what complexity can leave behind.

If there was no lost high civilisation, why does Sumer look like somebody turned the lights on?

Because archaeology is a dimmer switch seen through a keyhole. Pottery, irrigation, herding, exchange networks, shrine practice, accounting tokens -- many earlier steps exist. The light looks sudden because the window is narrow and writing is bright.

Ancient people invented administration and immediately everyone wished aliens had done it instead.

That joke has teeth. The alien version is often a way of refusing ancient people their own difficulty. Sumerian scribes spent lives learning signs. Priests built calendars because crops, rites, debt, labour and kingship required it. None of that becomes smaller because no saucer lands in the margin.

Watched the documentary last night. They showed a cylinder seal with a solar system including Pluto. Explain that.

VA 243. Every time. It is not a modern solar system diagram. The central star-like sign can be read as a star symbol, yes, but the surrounding dots are not labelled planets, not arranged in orbital order, and not unique. If you crop out the rest of Mesopotamian iconography, every star cluster becomes NASA. Put it back in its own visual language and the claim collapses.

Iconography is not a rebus puzzle for modern astronomy. Seals combine divine symbols, names, protective figures, and status language in conventional ways. If you identify one motif as Pluto because you need Pluto, you have left archaeology and entered collage.
