SPINNING FOR 14,341 DAYS AND COUNTING
A homemade perpetual-motion wheel on a workbench: a bicycle wheel rim studded with magnets, on a stand, with fixed magnets around it, slightly blurred as if turning.
THE WHEEL. April 1987 to this very minute. I have not touched it. I dust AROUND it.

IT HAS NOT STOPPED SINCE 1987.

I built it on the 12th of April 1987 and I gave it one push and it has not stopped. Not in a power cut. Not when we moved house (we moved the WHOLE BENCH, by van, still spinning, ask the man from the van). It is a wheel with magnets, and around it more magnets, arranged so that the wheel is always falling toward a pull it never quite reaches, like a donkey and a carrot, only the donkey is a wheel and the carrot is MAGNETISM and it does not get tired because magnetism does not get tired.

"But CONSERVATION OF ENERGY," they say. "A closed system cannot—" Explain THIS, then. Come to my garage. Bring your conservation. A man from the university DID come, in 1995, with a clipboard, and he watched it for two hours, and he checked it for a hidden motor (there is no hidden motor) and a wind (there is no wind) and then he went very quiet and he left and he did not write anything on his clipboard. I have his silence framed.

⚠ DO NOT STOP THE WHEEL to "see if it starts again." It will not start again the same. I do not know what the wheel is borrowing to keep turning, but it has been borrowing it politely for 14,341 days and I would not like to be the one who interrupts and finds out what it owes.

(the lawnmower will not mow in the shade of the conifer. the conifer is in line with the wheel. I do not think that is a coincidence. I think the wheel is using the conifer for something. that is my theory. I am only an electrician.)
