Anonymous Coward, sure, equipment weirdness is always on the table. I made a living from equipment weirdness. Half the job was telling operators their monster was a tired box with a hot cabinet.
Elaine and ScopeJockey are where the fight is. If the three channels were only a loose sequence, the case drops a notch. If the visual and the ECM bearings were only married later, it drops another. But if the crew had the thing in sight while the gear behaved like it had a source in the same place, then we are not done.
That is all I am claiming. Sensors, not aliens. And I have never heard a boring answer that covers the bundle without quietly cutting one of the strings.
