Where I land after six years: the excess-heat claims are most likely calorimetry error, the missing nuclear signature is the killer objection, and the press-conference debut poisoned any chance of a calm verdict. That is the honest mainstream read and I think it is right.

I will give the holdouts this much, and only this much: a small number of labs are still running careful cells and still occasionally report anomalies near the edge of detection. That is not a power source and it is not vindication. It is a handful of people doing quiet, unglamorous measurement on a question the field decided was closed. If something is ever really there, that is where it will turn up -- in a clean repeatable energy balance, not a press release. Until then, the file stays open and very, very skeptical.
