Description

Begins a list item inside UL, OL, DIR or MENU.

Syntax

Attributes

None in strict HTML 2.0.

Usage Guidelines

• Use LI only inside a list container.
• In HTML the closing LI was often omitted.
• A list item may contain paragraphs or nested lists, but keep it simple for browsers of the time.
• Do not use LI as a general bullet symbol outside a list.

Common Mistakes

• Missing the parent UL or OL produces unpredictable layout.
