Information Operations

How the NORTHGATE event is managed in public: not hidden, but reframed. The annex is written plainly because the people running it have stopped finding it strange.

1.0 The Problem

NORTHGATE was witnessed by thousands and recorded by more. Denial of the event is impossible; only its nature can be contested. The approved public account is below, followed by the methods by which the inconvenient parts are being managed.

APPROVED NARRATIVE (cleared for release): a protest in Coldbeck town centre — over the proposed closure of the Coldbeck minor-injuries unit — was infiltrated by organised extremists, escalated into a violent riot, and was put down by emergency services and military aid to the civil power. Outside agitators. Coordinated arson. A tragedy; an investigation; arrests pending. Move on.

2.0 Managing the Competing Account

The competing account — that an "underworld invasion" came out of the mine — is to be treated not as a secret to be hidden but as a conspiracy theory to be managed. You do not suppress a conspiracy theory. You make believing it feel embarrassing. The toolkit:

Footage shows weapons unlike any known technology.	Hoaxes, film props, video-game clips, AI-generated and deepfaked video; "stolen prototype equipment" for the residue that won't deny.	Doubt-flooding. Seed enough fakes that the real footage is assumed to be just more of them. Label genuine clips "manipulated media." Authenticity drowns.
The bodies / the materiel.	No comment; "active investigation"; access restricted as a crime scene.	Custody & delay. Recovery teams reach evidence first; the cordon is the cover. By the time anyone asks, there is nothing to show and a long time since.

Platform-side, the campaign runs the standard escalation: context labels and "fact-check" overlays on the invasion narrative; downranking and demonetisation of accounts pushing it; algorithmic suppression short of bans (a ban makes a martyr; a quiet throttle makes a nobody); and a steady supply of debunk content and sympathetic creators to fill the space the truth was using.

3.0 Why It Works, and What It Doesn't Fix

WHY IT WORKS: the truth here is more ridiculous than the lie. "Orcs came out of a coal mine with energy weapons" is a sentence that discredits its speaker no matter how true it is. We are not fighting the evidence. We are letting the evidence's own absurdity do the work, and adding ridicule, doubt, and volume on top. Belief in NORTHGATE-as-invasion now correlates, in the public mind, with belief in every other fringe theory — which is exactly where we filed it.

RESIDUAL RISK: a minority of witnesses cannot be talked down, because they were close enough that ridicule does not reach them. They are monitored, discredited, or bound by oath as the case requires. The contradictions remain in the record — non-human assailants, impossible weapons, damage beyond any riot — and we have not resolved them. We have made them uncool to repeat. That has proven sufficient. It is not the same as safe.
